This project is part of the ASAS Program.

The São Paulo Marsh Antwren (Formicivora paludicola) is a critically endangered species endemic to the state of São Paulo. Our project was created in 2017 and is developed in partnership with the municipalities of Guararema, Salesópolis, and São José dos Campos, as well as other partners. The objective is to ensure the conservation of the São Paulo Marsh Antwren and its habitat, focusing on Guararema (SP), Salesópolis (SP), and São José dos Campos (SP). We seek to fulfill our mission through the creation of new conservation units in Salesópolis and São José dos Campos, the implementation of the Conservation Unit created in Guararema in 2019, the engagement of the local community, the search for new areas where the species occurs, and the monitoring of its population.

In partnership with the Municipality of Guararema and the NGO Guaranature, SAVE Brasil is developing a conservation project for this species, whose main objectives are:

- To monitor the populations of the São Paulo marsh antwren in Guararema, Salesópolis, and São José dos Campos.
- To engage the local community of Guararema, Salesópolis, and São José dos Campos in the conservation of the species;
- Creation of municipal conservation units (Guararema: completed, Salesópolis and SJC: in process)
- To support the implementation of the Bicudinho-do-brejo-paulista Wildlife Refuge in Guararema.
- Creation of a municipal conservation unit.
