The birds have
a message for you.
Planalto Dove by Caio Brito

Birds have always been indicators of a healthy environment.
Today, they continue to be our messengers from nature, revealing that the climate crisis is real and is already affecting ecosystems across the planet.
Brazil, one of the most diverse countries in the world, plays a crucial role in this story. We are home to more than 1,900 species of birds—many of them unique in the world—and we preserve natural environments that are among the most important for tackling climate change.
And the message that the birds bring is clear:
Our collective future also depends on the conservation of natural environments.
What do the birds have to say?
More than just raising awareness, birds also inspire solutions. They are symbols of resilience, cooperation, and movement—essential qualities for the global response to the climate crisis.
The global evidence is clear:
One in four bird species is already experiencing negative impacts related to climate change.
Only 13% had positive responses; most face increasing risks to their survival.
The consequences go beyond biodiversity: they affect food production, access to water, and people's health and safety.
Caring for birds is also caring for ourselves.

Brazil is strategic.
With its unique diversity and continent-scale natural environments, Brazil is a key player in the global response to climate change.
Environments such as forests, fields, and wetlands store carbon, regulate rainfall, and protect communities.
Coastal areas and mangroves act as natural barriers against storms and floods.
Endangered species, such as the Planalto dove, the jacutinga, and the São Paulo marsh antwren, remind us that conserving nature is also preserving a cultural and scientific heritage.
These stories show that protecting birds is also protecting nature's invisible services—those that sustain our lives every day.
Nature-based solutions
At SAVE Brasil, the representative of BirdLife International in the country, we work to ensure that bird conservation also means conserving environments that are essential for millions of people.
As soluções já estão ao nosso alcance:
Restore
Protecting native forests and grasslands, reducing emissions and increasing resilience.
Protect
Wetlands and mangroves, which strengthen communities in the face of extreme events.
Defender
Ambitious public policies, placing nature at the center of the climate agenda.
These measures have proven to be effective.
and they need to gain scale and political support.
Why does this matter to you?
The climate crisis is global, and its impacts are reflected in your daily life:

Clean water

Disaster protection
Forests regulate rainfall and maintain our rivers.
Mangroves reduce the effects of floods.

Food safety
Balanced ecosystems support agriculture and fishing.

Health and well-being
Natural environments offer clean air, leisure, and culture.
Protecting nature is investing in our quality of life today and in the safety of future generations.

How can we listen to the birds and contribute to conservation?
The birds show us that there is still time to act — but we need to do it now.

Birds as inspiration
Beyond scientific indicators, birds also inspire. They unite science, culture, and emotion—they are symbols of hope. If we heed their signals, we can build a future where nature and people walk together.
SAVE Brasil's message at COP
Brazil has a strategic role to play in the global response to climate change. Protecting our birds and habitats is also protecting communities, cultures, and ways of life.
This is the message we're taking to COP. Join us. Because caring for nature is caring for us all.
